PHPA Players and Alumni Invest in Leadership Development Through Royal Roads Program

GROUNDBREAKING PLAYER RESOURCE PROGRAM WILL SUPPORT MEMBERS ON AND OFF THE ICE
The Professional Hockey Players’ Association (PHPA) is proud to announce the launch of The Professional Hockey Players’ Guild, a comprehensive new resource initiative designed to support players throughout every stage of their professional journey, from the first day of their career to life beyond the game as alumni.
This dynamic program is built around four core pillars of support (Education, Career, Health & Wellness, and Perks), providing players and their families with the tools needed to thrive both during and after their playing careers.
These four pillars form the foundation of the Professional Hockey Players’ Guild, each designed to address a key area of a player’s personal and professional journey:
“The Professional Hockey Players’ Guild represents a significant step forward in how we serve our members,” said Brian Ramsay, Executive Director of the PHPA. “We’ve built a platform that recognizes the full scope of a player’s life – not just as athletes, but as students, professionals, parents, and community members.”
Available to all members from their first professional signing through their time as alumni, the program is tailored to meet the evolving needs of players at every stage of their path. Many offerings are also extended to spouses and families, reinforcing the PHPA’s commitment to holistic, inclusive support.
“This initiative is about more than just services, it’s about providing players with the ability to empower ourselves throughout our journey,” said Chris Terry of the American Hockey League’s Bridgeport Islanders. “The Guild is another example of how the union has our members’ long-term success in mind, helping us prepare for life after hockey while still performing at our best.”

Royal Roads’ Sports Leadership leadership course helps PHPA members strengthen skills for hockey and future careers alike.

Our player-led executive committees were an integral part of securing key gains in the new collective bargaining agreements that were negotiated earlier this season.

Thirteen PHPA members represented five countries at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, delivering memorable performances on hockey’s biggest international stage.
