About the PHPA

Working for the players

The Professional Hockey Players’ Association (PHPA) is the certified collective bargaining representative for players in the American Hockey League (AHL) and ECHL, representing about 1,800 athletes across 60 teams in North America.

Its primary role is negotiating benefits through a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), including health coverage, housing, travel expenses, per diems, and player programs. With salaries largely set by performance and team valuation, the PHPA focuses on improving players’ overall quality of life.

Redline

The REDLINE is a free, confidential, 24/7 support service for players and their families, connecting them with trained professionals who can help with issues such as injury, stress, mental health, relationships, legal matters, or financial concerns.

The CBA's

The AHL and ECHL Collective Bargaining Agreements outline the rules, benefits, and protections for players, including salary, travel, housing, and health coverage. They also establish how disputes between players, teams, and the league are resolved.
